Saturday, September 11th, 9 AM: "Fall Migration Bird Walk"
As photoperiod declines, the birds are cued into beginning their long treks southward. Catch a glimpse of some of these birds, including hawks, as they pause to fuel up for the arduous journey.
 
Saturday, September 18th, 1 PM: "Naturalist’s Choice Hike"
Seasonal climate and weather will help play a role in deciding where this hike will take us. Join a museum naturalist as they select a trail and topic to find some of the exciting ecological events which are occurring.
 
Saturday, September 25th, 10 AM: "Small Steps in a Big World"
Calling all toddlers! Join a park naturalist for a morning of exploration, relaxation and fun. We will take a short hike on the wonderful trails in search of critters and crawlies. A nature craft will end this program. Pre-registration is required. Contact (914) 864-7322 to register.

Join us for this annual event with storyteller Jonathan Kruk. Tales of leprechaun lairs, elfin dens, faerie eyries, and a troll bridge! Co-sponsored by the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

From the tiniest insect to the largest tree, everything is connected. Discover how animals and their habitats are linked together. Explore the food web, animal life cycles, and the relationships between predators and prey. Meet predator and prey animals up close in this LIVE ANIMAL program presented by Anthony Cogswell. Co-sponsored by the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.
 
Saturday, October 16th, 1 PM: "Mushrooms Walk with Taro Ietaka"
Stinky Squid, Dead Man’s Fingers, Destroying Angels. These are just a few of the mushrooms that one can encounter with the Reservation. Join Cranberry Lake Curator and mushroom expert Taro Ietaka for a hike as we discuss mycology and take a look at some of the native mushrooms of our area.
 
Saturday, October 23rd, 9 AM – 1 PM: "Survive: An Alternate Reality Game" (Session I)
Imagine yourself as one of only 12 kids who survived the worst earthquake in recorded history … ever! No house, no food, no clean water, NO X-Box! … AHHHHH! Relax, this is just our imagination! Join Jim Jinkins, cartoonist, storyteller, time traveler and park enthusiast along with eleven other adventurous kids, aged ten to twelve, for Ward Pound Ridge Reservation’s very first Alternate Reality Game! Two teams will compete to find out who survives and who doesn’t! Track down enemies (both imaginary and real) to the park’s fragile eco-system, build a shelter from materials hidden along the trail, kill nasty bacteria and viruses in river water, start a fire without matches, hunt for food and SURVIVE! Pre-registration required, maximum of 12 participants aged 10-12. Fee of $25 includes all craft materials, code sheets, and Survival-Rations. Saturday, November 13th, 1 PM: “It’s for the Birds: Creating Backyard Feeders”
In a program designed for children, we will make a few different simple feeders made from everyday material. These will be for use at the Sanctuary as well as to take home. Create a feeder that can be used all winter long.
 
Saturday, November 20th, 1 PM: “Fall Scavenger Hunt”
Fall is a great time to get outside and see some of the art and beauty of nature.
Bring the family and enjoy a wonderful walk through our park as you go in search of nature's hidden treasures.

Saturday, December 18th, 1 PM: "Where Do They Go In The Winter?"
In a program designed for children, we will discuss how the flora and fauna of Westchester County deal with the cold temperatures and short daylight hours. Through a craft project, we will also create our own creatures with unique over-wintering techniques.
