- At 10:00 AM - NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT! - Celebrate spring
and sharpen your observation skills. This is a self-guided
scavenger hunt using our nature checklist. Go at your own pace
while discovering nature's treasures. Review your observations
with staff at the end of your journey. You can pick up scavenger
hunt instructions at the museum between 10 AM and 2 PM.

for a fresh spring twilight walk. Find out what goes on during
this time of year in the fields and forests of the Reservation.

James Eyring returns to Trailside with his fast feathered friends
for a falconing demonstration.

- Saturday, 2nd, 3:00 PM - FOREST REGENERATION AND DEER
HUNTING - How will selective bowhunting of deer affect forest
regeneration? What will controlled hunting do to the dynamics
of deer populations, and how can this help meet forest management
goals? Join us for an informative talk by Mark Weckel of the
City University of New York who will share his ongoing doctoral
research on the subject.

- Sunday 3rd, 7:00 AM - SPRING BIRDING WITH ED KANZE
- Join the early birds looking for, well, early birds! Catch
sight of returning songbirds during one of their most active
periods of the day. Ed Kanze returns again to lead this annual
excursion to observe the behavior of some of the colorful songbirds
of the Reservation. Sponsored by the Friends of Trailside &
Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Please meet at the Michigan
Road parking area by 7:00 AM sharp.

- Saturday 9th, 1:00 PM - POETRY AND WILDFLOWERS - Join
North Salem poet Christine Boyka Kluge for an easy literary walking
tour of the Reservation's wildflowers and awakening landscape.
At stops along the way, hear poems that mirror or speak to the
natural setting. If inspired, share a quote or brief poem of
your own that reflects the season. Meet at the museum. Sponsored
by the Friends of Trailside & Ward Pound Ridge Reservation,
with additional funding by Poets & Writers, Inc. using
public funds from the NYS Council on the Arts, a state agency.

spring buildup of the hive signals the time to start beekeeping
duties. Join backyard beekeeper Ralph Szur as he reveals the
fascinating inner social life of the bee hive.

ready for your summer campout! Learn how to prepare simple, tasty
foods over an open campfire. Stews, breads, desserts, vegetables,

- Many familiar plants or "weeds" are edible. Learn
about the edible, medicinal, and utilitarian uses for common
plants of our area.

- Saturday, 6th, 1:00 PM - HISTORY OF THE FORESTS OF
SOUTH EASTERN NEW YORK - Starting with the European settlers
to the region, this presentation covers the history and use of
the forested lands of our area. Agricultural clearing and later
abandonment of lands, catastrophic forest events such as wildfires
and the Chestnut Blight are among the topics discussed. Current
forest conditions at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation will also be
reviewed. Presented by Andrew Hubbard of the Watershed Forestry
Program.

Animals abound from the tropical rain forests to the driest deserts.
Discover what makes a habitat unique and perfect for the incredible
animals that live there. Meet animals from the rain forest, desert,
and our very own temperate forest during this LIVE ANIMAL program.

- SUMMER CAMP AT TRAILSIDE - The Children's Summer Ecology
Program will run from July 6th through August 14th. During
this time the museum will be open Monday through Friday from
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, and closed on weekends. For information
